He knows all the small secrets and tricks of the island and will contact local dive shops, car rentals, fruit farms and what not to maximize your experience. But his generosity and helpfulness stretches so much further! He will gladly help you with Anything you need help with or might wonder. He will inform you about the islands upon arrival and help you plan your stay. Hiro is the owner of the place and a local know-all. But what makes the stay at Shiraho Friends House so extra ordinary is Hiro. You have nice rooms, toilet, shower, big kitchen, a big rooftop with hammoks and more. Why stay at Shiraho Friends House? Yes, it's located a short bus ride from both the airport and downtown, in a quiet small town with all the necessities nearby (aswell as a nice beach strip for midnight walks). He suggested the smallest most intimate local restaurants as well as many unique locations like a river that you can catch river shrimp in for dinner and quiet back beaches.Hiro's recommendations are truly the local experience, and if that's not what you are looking for I think much of the charm of this island will be lost. The hostel is situated directly next to very reasonably priced car rental shop so it's very easy to get your day started. It was so cheap and wonderfully quiet and private I continued to stay up there even after rooms were available. When I asked Hiro about it he said all the beds were unfortunately booked but he offered to put me up in a very large tent, equipped with writing desk, fan and lamp on the room for under 1,000 yen a night. I wanted to extend my stay after staying several days at the hostel. What makes him so valuable is that has not only lived on the island for such a long time but the fact that he seems to know EVERYBODY. Hiro, the owner is just the kindest in every way.
